Partners for the Arts

About

It all started in December of 2019 when local environmental artist and poet, Marlene Creates, was shopping at Tilt House Bakery. A couple of fellow shoppers invited her to attend a Christmas gathering they were helping organize for the Portugal Cove-St. Philip's Chamber of Commerce. She did, and ended up sitting next to  Michael Murray, Chair of the PCSP Chamber of Commerce, who asked her about what the Chamber could do for artists in the area.  She had a couple of ideas for the Town that she had never had the time to act on herself, so she mentioned them to Michael. Thanks to help from the Chamber and the efforts of fellow artist Michelle Jones, Partners for the Arts was formed.  In November of 2020 Partners for the Arts held their official launch at The Grounds Cafe at Murray's Gardens, hosted by the PCSP Chamber of Commerce.

Partners for the Arts has a volunteer steering committee. The association is funded by the Town of PCSP, the Killick Coast Chamber of Commerce (formerly PCSP Chamber of Commerce), other funding opportunities as they become available, and donations.

Mandate

Their mandate is to create a presence that will provide a forum to share ideas and information, provide educational opportunitites, and facilitate collaborative efforts with local businesses and schools as well as tourism and heritage groups. They want to support all disciplines of the arts such as visual artists, artisans, craft persons, literary, film and performing arts including dance, music and theatre.

Testimonials from Members

We always love hearing from our members about how Partners for the Arts has helped them.

"The arts association has certainly been a tremendous step forward for our entire community. This group has provided us with affiliations with the Chamber of Commerce and with Music NL. This networking alone has been very beneficial in the forms of visibility and assistance. Music NL in particular has helped its membership considerably. In addition to broadening our network and providing us with new opportunities, they have also helped offset part of the financial burden during Covid-19 in the form of grants. As a member I feel truly valued and recognized in my own community. "

"Just wanted to let you know how grateful I am for the opportunity of displaying at the arts festival. It was my first festival to attend and showcase my woodworking products. It was a great response from the other members and the people who attended.

It was great exposure for me and I am still receiving inquiries on projects. I look forward to the next event.

Thank you all. "
